Chapter 40 The Delusional Guy's Sense of Duty

The Delusional Guyā€™s Sense of Duty

Yuyaā€™s PoV

The sports festival had ended.

On my way home, I walked, wrestling with my thoughts alone.

ā€œWhyā€¦ why did it have to come to thisā€¦?ā€

My mind was consumed by one thingā€”Akari.

Akari and I have been childhood friends for over ten years.

Until just recently, we were even dating.

The unshakable bond we once shared is now on the verge of breaking apart.

Thatā€™s why I invited Akari to be my pair partner, hoping to repair our relationshipā€¦

ā€œā€¦I never imagined Akari would turn me down for the pair dance.ā€

It completely blindsided me.

I thought Akari was looking for a partner.

And yet, she chose that guy, rejecting meā€¦

Itā€™s unbelievable.

Why would Akari pair up with someone like him?

To make matters worse, today, during the incident with the stolen belongings, Akari pushed me away.

All I did was state the facts. It wasnā€™t baseless speculation.

I mean, anyone would have thought the same, right?

If Kyogoku was at the scene of the theft at the time it happened, anyone wouldā€¦

ā€œI didnā€™t do anything wrong.ā€

Iā€™m not wrong. I know Iā€™m not wrong.

All I did was mention that I saw Kyogoku.

I thought it might help solve the incident.

Thatā€™s all there was to itā€¦

Akariā€™s the one acting strange.

Sheā€™s defending Kyogoku way too much.

I donā€™t know whatā€™s going on between Akari and Kyogoku, but itā€™s not normal.

I mean, this is Kyogoku weā€™re talking about.

The guy everyone in school hates, with a face like a villainā€™s.

He never talks to anyone and is always alone.

You canā€™t even tell what heā€™s thinking.

For Akari to side with someone so obviously ā€œdangerousā€ā€¦ Iā€™m giving her advice for her own good.

She seriously needs to wake up.

ā€¦Sure, Kyogoku saved Akari.

And yes, I lied about it. Thatā€™s true.

But thatā€™s all there is to it.

How does that make Kyogokuā€™s reputation skyrocket while mine plummets? Itā€™s insane.

ā€œWhat the hell is going onā€¦?ā€

Am I really the one at fault here?

Thereā€™s no way thatā€™s true.

Thereā€™s no way acting out of concern for Akari could be wrong.

Iā€™m doing this for her.

As her childhood friend, as her ex-boyfriend.

ā€œI mean, those two winning the Best Pair Award? Seriously?ā€

In the end, they went and won the Best Pair Award.

What the hell is happening here?

I was supposed to be the one standing next to Akari.

ā€œDonā€™t tell me Akariā€¦ likes Kyogokuā€¦ā€

Thereā€™s a jinx associated with the Best Pair Award.

They say the couple who wins it will be bound together forever.

Honestly, I couldnā€™t care less whether thatā€™s true or not.

The problem is that itā€™ll make them aware of each other.

If that happens, theyā€™ll start seeing each other differently.

And then Akari mightā€¦ start looking at Kyogoku in that wayā€¦

ā€œNo, no way. No way in hell. Hahahaā€¦ hahahaā€¦ā€

Even if sheā€™s defending him this much, itā€™s still Kyogoku.

Someone like Akari, who has so many options, would never choose Kyogoku.

Especially with those eyes of his.

Itā€™s fine. Yeah, itā€™s fine.

I definitely donā€™t need to worry about that.

ā€œHonestly, I donā€™t like the idea of Akari dating anyone else anyway.ā€

Maybe itā€™s selfish, but I want Akari to be mine and mine alone.

Sheā€™s only ever been with me until now, so itā€™s only natural for it to stay that way.

Yeah, no doubt about it.

I understand Akari better than anyone else.

If someone like me thinks so, then Akari is definitely mine alone.

That said, I canā€™t let my guard down.

Kyogoku is absolutely dangerous.

Heā€™s the guy who hurled insults at me, and you never know what he might do.

Akari is my childhood friend, someone whoā€™s practically family.

Even if our relationship is strained right now, Iā€™ll take it upon myself to protect Akari.

From a ā€œmonsterā€ like Kyogoku.

ā€œKyogokuā€¦ If you make Akari cry, I will never forgive you.ā€

Iā€™m the one who will protect her.

Akariā€¦ the Akari whoā€™s still helpless without me!

ā€œNakano-kun!ā€

ā€œAh! Manami-chan!ā€

Manami-chan was walking toward me from the opposite direction.

I instinctively ran up to her and hugged her tightly.

ā€œNakano-kun? Whatā€™s wrong?ā€

ā€œManami-chan, youā€™ll believe me, wonā€™t you? Youā€™ll stay on my side, right?ā€

ā€œGeez, what are you saying? Of course I will. Iā€™ve always been on your side, Nakano-kun.ā€

ā€œManami-chanā€¦!!!ā€

I hugged Manami-chan even tighter.

Manami-chan and I are connected not just physically but emotionally too.

Her sexy body, everything about her, belongs to me alone.

ā€œYou were taking so long, so I came to get you. Come on, letā€™s go~.ā€

ā€œYeah!!!ā€

With Manami-chan clinging to my arm, we headed to the hotel.

In the end, the only one I can truly love is Manami-chanā€¦

Manamiā€™s PoV

Nakano-kun was out of breath.

He lay exhausted on the bed, counting the stains on the ceiling.

ā€œYou were amazing again today, Manami-chanā€¦ā€

ā€œHehe, Iā€™m glad~.ā€

Suddenly, the phone on the bedside table vibrated.

ā€œHold on a sec, okay?ā€

I slipped out of bed and answered the call.

ā€œā€¦Yeah, got it. Iā€™ll be there later. Okay, see you.ā€

After hanging up, Nakano-kun, his face still flushed, asked me without looking my way.

ā€œWho was that?ā€

ā€œMy mom. She was asking about dinner~ā€¦ā€

I smiled to cover it up.

He doesnā€™t know anything.

Reallyā€¦

ā€œā€¦Itā€™s about time, I guess.ā€

ā€œHuh? Did you say something?ā€

ā€œNope, nothing at all.ā€
