Chapter 15 Serves Them Right
#21MotoKanojoServes Them Right
āUh, umā¦ thisā¦ā
On the low table, alongside the cute new dishes and the side dishes Kinoshita-senpai prepared, thereās an unfamiliar dish added to the spread.
āAhaha, when I went to get my hair cut today, I bought these dishes too. You know, after how tough things were yesterday and the day beforeā¦ā
āO-Oh, I see. Sorry I didnāt notice.ā
āN-No, no! I should be the one apologizing. Even though Iām being allowed to stay hereā¦ sorry!ā
For some reason, we both apologized at the same time, awkwardly looking down.
āW-Well, how about we start eating?ā
āY-Yeah, letās do that!ā
Since continuing to fidget wouldnāt help, I broke the silence, clasped my hands together, and said,
āāItadakimasu.āā
Picking up my chopsticks, I reached for my bowl.
For the record, Kinoshita-senpaiās dishes included spinach ohitashi and simmered squid with taro.
Andā¦ the steaming hot pork miso soup and tamagoyaki were probably made by Kakizaki-san.
With that in mind, I decided to try the tamagoyaki first.
āā¦(stare)ā
ā¦Yep, Iām being stared at intensely.
Itās not just staringāshe seems a bit restless, too.
Pretending not to notice her gaze, I popped the tamagoyaki into my mouth in one bite.
āItās delicious!ā
āR-Really?ā
āYeah! Itās so fluffy and soft. When I bite into it, the flavor of the dashi spreads through my mouthā¦ Wow, I could eat this forever!ā
āAhaha, s-so glad to hear that!ā
The moment I praised her, Kakizaki-sanās face lit up with the brightest smile Iād ever seen.
And honestly, I wasnāt exaggeratingāit really was delicious.
āW-Well then, next up is the pork miso soupā¦ā
I switched the bowl in my hands for the soup bowl and took a sip of the pork miso soup.
āAhhā¦ The pork miso soup is amazing too. Itās so warm and comfortingā¦ā
āR-Right? Since itās a bit cold today, I thought pork miso soup would be perfect!ā
Honestly, the girl in front of me couldnāt look happier if she tried.
āBut Kakizaki-san, youāre really good at cooking, huh?ā
āAhaha, actually, the high school I went to was an all-girls school, and they really focused on home economics classesā¦ā
According to Kakizaki-san, the all-girls high school she attended put a lot of emphasis on skills like cooking and sewing as part of an old-fashioned ābride trainingā program.
Yeah, I canāt deny it sounds outdated.
āBut wait, do schools like that even exist these days? I can hardly believe itā¦ā
āY-Yeah. I think you might have heard of it, though. Itās called āDoujo High: Doukei Women University Affiliated Schholsāā¦ā
āEh?! You went to that school, Kakizaki-san?!ā
Hearing her alma mater, I couldnāt help but be shocked.
Even I, who came from the countryside, knew about Doukei Women University Affiliated Schools. Itās one of the most prestigious girlsā schools in Japan, attended by daughters of elite families from political and financial circles.
Andā¦ the girls attending Saturdayās mixer are from Doukei Women University, meaning theyāre likely graduates of that high school as wellā¦
āA-Ahahaā¦ Well, at the time, I did have the title of ācompany presidentās daughterāā¦ā
Kakizaki-san added, āThough, I was just a nouveau riche daughter,ā sticking out her tongue playfully and looking a bit embarrassed.
āI-I seeā¦ Kakizaki-san, youāre really amazingā¦ā
āIām not amazing at allā¦ In the end, I went to that school with money that was earned by deceiving peopleā¦ā
As she said that, Kakizaki-sanās expression suddenly turned sorrowful.
Sighā¦ We just agreed last night not to bring up her past, and here I am, messing up alreadyā¦
But still.
āā¦Your cooking skills have nothing to do with anyone elseās money or circumstances. Theyāre your own talent. Soā¦ I think you should be proud of that.ā
āā¦! T-Thank you.ā
After that, we both got embarrassed and finished dinner in silence.
āOh, right.ā
While getting ready for bed after taking a bath, I suddenly remembered something and called out to Kakizaki-san.
āWhat is it?ā
āWell, you know, I was wondering about the cancellation process for the room next doorāhowās that going?ā
āAh, yeah. I took care of that today tooā¦ā
She answered, then quietly lowered her gaze.
āā¦Did something happen?ā
āA-Ahaha, itās nothing majorā¦ Itās just that apparently, the landlord also got an anonymous letter, and when I told her I was moving out, she looked really happy, thatās allā¦ā
She bit her lip tightly.
ā¦Just how much more does she have to suffer?
Why does she have to keep experiencing such unreasonable thingsā¦?!
āH-Hahaā¦ Well then, serves them right, huh?ā
āEhā¦?ā
āThink about it. Those hopeless jerks who think they drove you out, and the gleeful landlordātheyād never imagine youāre living comfortably right next door. Doesnāt that make you feel like youāve gotten the last laugh?ā
I said that to her in a playful tone, trying my best to sound lighthearted.
Hoping, even just a little, that she wouldnāt dwell on it too much.
Hoping, even just a little, that she could feel like she had won.
Then.
āA-Ahahaā¦ Really, youāre such an idiotā¦ Being so kindā¦ to someone like meā¦ someone like meāuwaah!ā
āWhaā?!ā
Suddenly, Kakizaki-san threw herself into my chest and started sobbing uncontrollably.
Iā¦ was betrayed by Hiyori, became wary of women, unable to trust themā¦ So, normally, having someone cry on me like this would be unbearable.
And yet.
āSqueeze
āā¦Iāll never kick you out. You can stay here foreverā¦ okay?ā
āSniffā¦ Hicā¦ Yeahā¦ Yeahā¦!ā
I held her close and gently patted her back until her sobs subsided.
Wounded hearts healing eachother I guess, nice, even tho the situation is beyond f**ked up. Between this, the gossip and what idols and celebrities there go through you cab tell Japanese crowd mentality is scary as hell
