Chapter 6 Running into Nagi After Class
#OtokotomodachiRunning into Nagi After Class
The next afternoon.
With all my university lectures finished for the day, I was walking through campus, ready to head straight home, whenâŠ
âHuh? Isnât thatâŠ?â
I spotted Nagi sitting on a bench, engrossed in a book. Even just sitting there reading, he looked incredibly composed. No wonder the girls called him âPrince Charming.â
ââŠHmm? Oh, Taiki. Good work today.â
âOh? Yeah, good work to you too.â
As I stared at him, Nagi noticed me and waved. I greeted him back and walked over to him.
âDid you finish all your lectures for today too, Nagi?â
âYeah, I did. Oh, why donât you take a seat next to me? Standing like that must be tiring, right?â
âThanks. Well, donât mind if I do⊠Phew, today felt like such a long day.â
âFufu, you look pretty worn out.â
âYeah, I had to resubmit a report assignment over and over again. It was exhausting⊠Oh, by the way, what book are you reading, Nagi?â
âThis? Itâs a mystery novel. It got pretty famous on TV and SNS a while back. Here, take a look.â
With that, Nagi showed me the book cover. The title looked familiar.
âOh, Iâve seen that title before. It was trending a lot on SNS. Is it as good as people say?â
âYeah, Iâm still in the middle of it, but itâs really good. If youâd like, you can borrow it once Iâm done.â
âEh? Really? Iâd love to read it. Would you mind lending it to me when you finish?â
âOf course, I wouldnât mind at all.â
When I asked, Nagi gave me his usual soft, âprince-likeâ smile. He really is such a kind guy.
âThanks. Iâm looking forward to it. But, Nagi, you seem to read a lot. Do you really enjoy it that much?â
âYeah, I do. Back in middle and high school, I was in the literature club. Iâve enjoyed reading ever since.â
âWait, really? Thatâs unexpected. Youâre tall and seem pretty athletic, so I always thought you were in some kind of sports club.â
âWell, technically, I was in the basketball club too. A friend begged me to join and help out. But whenever I didnât feel like going to practice, Iâd sneak off to the literature club and spend my time quietly reading alone.â
âHaha, so the literature club was your little hideout, huh? Having a spot like that sounds kind of fun.â
âFufu, it was. Those days were really enjoyable⊠Oh, by the way, you said youâre done with lectures for today, right? What are your plans now?â
âI was just planning to head straight home. I donât have anything else to do today.â
âI see. In that case, why donât we head back together? And maybe stop by the cafĂ© near the station for a relaxing tea break?â
âHuh? Sure, I donât mind⊠but werenât you in the middle of reading?â
âOh, I was just reading to kill time. BesidesâŠâ
âBesides?â
âSince youâre single now and have more time to hang out, I thought itâd be nice to spend some time together today.â
âHaha, whatâs with that? Youâre so cool.â
Inviting me for tea while being considerate of my feelings after the breakupâheâs incredibly cool. If I were a girl, Iâd definitely want to date someone like Nagi.
âAlright, letâs do it. Letâs stop by the cafĂ© near the station before heading home.â
âFufu, Iâm glad you agreed. Letâs head there now.â
âSounds good.â
And so, we got up from the bench and started walking together, chatting happily as we made our way to the station.
