Chapter 4 Enjoying a Fun Conversation With Nagi
Enjoying a Fun Conversation With Nagi
And so, I casually asked Nagi that question.
“Hmm, I’d be happy to have you celebrate for me, Taiki, but unfortunately, I’ve never been in a relationship before.”
“Really? That’s surprising. With all the attention you get from girls, I thought you’d definitely have a girlfriend. But I guess not?”
Surprisingly, Nagi admitted that he’d never dated anyone. Considering how incredibly handsome and kind he is, that was a bit unexpected.
“Yeah. Sure, lots of girls approach me, but I don’t feel like dating just anyone.”
“Makes sense. So, do you have a type? Or any specific traits or conditions you look for in someone?”
“Eh? Hmm… What kind of person I’d like to date, huh? Well, this might sound a bit cliché, but I’d want it to develop naturally from a close friendship where we can talk about anything. I can’t imagine dating someone I don’t really know. For me, it’s about getting to know someone deeply and thinking, ‘I want to be with this person forever.’ That’s my ideal.”
Nagi explained his thoughts on relationships, looking just a bit embarrassed as he spoke.
I listened intently, nodding several times as he talked.
“I see, I see. So that’s how you feel about dating, huh, Nagi?”
“…I mean, it probably doesn’t suit me, right? Honestly, it feels like I’ve read too many shoujo manga.”
“Huh? No, not at all. There’s nothing embarrassing about that.”
“Eh?”
“Trying to truly understand someone deeply is incredibly important. It’s crucial when it comes to relationships. So don’t laugh about it in a self-deprecating way. I really respect how you think about love, Nagi.”
“…Thanks, Taiki.”
“Of course. Well, since neither of us has a significant other right now and we’ve probably got plenty of free time… let’s hang out and have fun together for a while!”
“Yeah, sounds good. If there’s anywhere you want to go, just let me know.”
Smiling, Nagi asked if there was anywhere I’d like to visit. He really is such a kind guy.
Grateful for his kindness, I started thinking about where I might want to go.
“Hmm, let’s see… Oh, I know! Now that I’m single, I kind of want to check out a hostess bar or maybe a club.”
“Huh? A hostess bar? A club?”
“Yeah. I never went to places like that when I had a girlfriend, but some of my friends often go there after parties, you know, like for the second or third round of drinks.”
“Really? That’s news to me.”
“Wait, really? Oh, don’t tell me you’ve never been to places like that either, Nagi?”
“Nope, I haven’t. I usually leave after the first round of drinks at parties.”
“Oh yeah, now that you mention it, you do always leave early.”
Thinking back, Nagi and I usually left together after the first round of drinks at circle or group gatherings. But since we’re both single now…
“Hey, since we’re both free right now, how about we try going to one of those bars with older women where we can have some fun? You know, like a social observation for adults.”
And so, I made that suggestion to Nagi.
Going to a place like that might give us some solid stories to share at future drinking parties, and it would be an interesting life experience to try at least once.
Plus, if I’m being honest, after dealing with my overbearing ex, I kind of wanted to chat with a kind older woman who’d listen and agree with everything I said.
And Nagi’s a guy too, so I figured he might be curious about places like that. That’s why I brought it up. But…
“Hmm… Well, I’m sure those places are interesting, but don’t you think it’s a little too soon for you, Taiki?”
“Huh? You think so?”
Contrary to my expectations, Nagi looked a bit displeased and said that to me.
“Yeah, I do. Besides, you can visit those kinds of places anytime after you become a working adult. For now, wouldn’t it be better to enjoy the things you can only do as a student?”
“Ah, I see your point. That does make sense.”
“Exactly. Also, if the girls at university found out you were going to places like that… Fufu, you’d probably stop being popular with them. In the worst case, they might even start calling you a closet perv.”
“Wha—?! No way! I’d hate that!”
Honestly, if word got out that I was going to places like that, I’d definitely get labeled as some sleazy guy by the girls. Yeah, that’s the last thing I want!
“Haha, right? So, let’s save those grown-up adventures for after we graduate. For now, let’s enjoy a wholesome and fun college life together.”
“Yeah, you’re right. Besides, anything I do with you, Nagi, is always fun. Let’s keep enjoying ourselves together.”
“Of course. Oh, and speaking of fun, why don’t we go out for drinks soon? You haven’t been able to go out much lately, right?”
“Oh, that’s a great idea! Yeah, let’s do it. Let’s pick a date right now so we don’t forget!”
“Sure thing. Let me check my schedule…”
And so, as we planned our next drinking session, I continued to relax on the bench with Nagi, enjoying the moment.
