Chapter 27 Eh, Nagi is...!?
Eh, Nagi isâŠ!?
âN-no, Nanami⊠what are you saying? He is obviously a guy, doesnât he? Right, Nagi?â
âEh!? Ah, um⊠w-well, thatâsâŠ!â
When I turned to Nagi for confirmation, he suddenly seemed incredibly flustered.
Nanami, noticing Nagiâs reaction, frowned and spoke with suspicion.
ââŠNo, sheâs clearly a girl. Why do you think heâs a guy? Do you have any proof?â
âW-Well, look at Nagiâs clothesâtheyâre menâs clothes! That makes him a guy, doesnât it?â
âTaiki, thatâs such a stupid reason. Sure, Nagiâs wearing menâs clothes, but just look at her body shapeâitâs obviously a girl.â
âHuh? Body shape?â
âExactly. Plus, her face is small, her shoulders are narrow, and even though sheâs a bit more built than most girlsâprobably from working outâitâs still clear sheâs a girl.â
âN-No way. That canât be right! Besides, donât say something so rude about someone youâve just met. R-Right, Nagi? Iâm sorry for what Nanamiâsââ
ââŠNo, itâs okay. Sheâs right. Iâm⊠not a guy. Iâm a girl.â
ââŠHuh?â
Just as I was about to apologize to Nagi, he lowered his head slightly and quietly muttered those words.
My mind couldnât process it at first, leaving me utterly confused.
âW-Wait⊠oh! I get it! This must be one of those tricks, right? Youâre not Nagiâyouâre actually Nami-san!â
ââŠEh?â
âYeah, thatâs it! Nagi and Nami-san have the same body type, so you mustâve switched places for fun! Like one of those twin-switch tricks you see in anime or dramasââ
ââŠSorry, but Iâm an only child. The person working at that cafĂ© and the one attending this university⊠both of them are me.â
With his head lowered, Nagi admitted it, leaving me struggling to wrap my head around his words.
(Wait⊠does that mean⊠no way!)
âEh⊠wha!? W-wait a second⊠my head is really messed up right now⊠but⊠are you saying that Nagiâs sister, Nami-san, is⊠you?â
âYes, thatâs right. Iâm Nami-san.â
âWhaâŠ!?â
Nagiâs words hit me like a ton of bricks. A person named Nami-san never existed. The beautiful woman in the maid outfit I thought was Nami-san⊠was Nagi all along.
Which meansâŠ
âS-So that means Iâve been saying all those things about Nami-san to you this whole time⊠like how sheâs my type, or how beautiful and kind she isâŠ?â
âY-Yeah⊠so everything you said was directed at meâŠâ
âN-No way! I-I⊠ahâŠ!â
Realizing this, my face turned bright red.
I had told Nagi things like how beautiful, kind, and my type âNami-sanâ wasâonly to discover Iâd been saying all of it directly to him.
(W-wait a second⊠ah, I want to disappear into a hole!!)
I screamed internally, overwhelmed by embarrassment.
When I looked at Nagi, his face was just as red. Well, of courseâit mustâve been embarrassing for him to hear all that.
Both of us stood there, faces flushed, awkwardly avoiding each otherâs gaze.
Then Nanami, looking confused, spoke up.
âHuh? Whatâs wrong, Taiki? Why do you look so weird?â
âEh!? A, w-well, um⊠I-I was just surprised because I didnât realize at all that Nagi was a girl. But how did you know Nagi was a girl at first glance, Nanami?â
âBecause I closely analyze peopleâs body types for work. Iâm always thinking about things like, âThese clothes would suit this manâs frame,â or âThis would complement this womanâs slender figure.â Besides, with her small face, narrow shoulders, and body shape, anyone could tell this girl is a woman.â
âI-I see⊠so itâs a professional thing. But hey, wait a second! Calling someone âthis girlâ when youâve just met them is rude!â
âEh? Ahaha, itâs fine, isnât it? Right, Nagi? You donât mind either, do you?â
âEh? Y-yes, I donât particularly mind, butâŠâ
Nagi, overwhelmed by Nanamiâs overbearing demeanor, nodded reluctantly. Nanami had a habit of looking down on others, even at first meetings.
True to form, she was doing it again now.
âSee? No problem. Anyway, Nagi, youâre a bit more built than most girls. Oh, do you play sports? Are you an athlete?â
âEh? No, I donât play any sports right now. I just do some light workouts and running on my days off.â
âWow, you train even though youâre not an athlete? Oh, I get itâyou work out to pull off a masculine look! Are you a cosplayer or something?â
âN-No, itâs nothing like that. I just work out and wear menâs clothes because⊠well, no particular reason. I just do it.â
âHuh? Youâre doing all this for no reason? Haha, whatâs with that? Youâre such a weird girlâso painfully odd! Haha, youâre seriously over the top!â
ââŠ!â
âHey, Nanami, thatâs enough. You donât talk to someone youâve just met like that. Show some respect.â
I glared at Nanami, who was laughing at Nagi, and reprimanded her.
âWhat? Why? Sheâs weird! I mean, she works out and wears menâs clothes for no reasonâthatâs so cringy. What are you even doing hanging out with someone this ridiculous, Taiki?â
âNagiâs my close friend, and I enjoy spending time with her. Donât insult my friends like that.â
âT-TaikiâŠâ
âHuh? Taiki, you sticking up for another girl? Thatâs rare. Oh, whatever. So, Nagi-chan, was it?â
âEh? Ah, yes?â
âWell, Taiki and I have something important to discuss. So why donât you head home? Come on, Taiki, letâs go.â
âIâm not going anywhere with you. Hey! Stop clinging to my arm!â
âFufu, come on. You should feel honored to have a cute girl holding onto you.â
âWhoâd be happy about that!? And youâre not my girlfriend, either!â
âU-Um!â
As Nanami and I argued, Nagi suddenly raised her voice. Nanami turned to her, clearly annoyed.
âWhat? Oh, youâre still here? Look, we donât need you anymore, so why donât you just go home?â
âYou might not need me, but I do! Taiki is my dear friend. S-So⊠please let go of him. Youâre making him uncomfortable!â
ââŠHuh?â
Nagi, her voice trembling slightly, stood up to Nanamiâs selfishness.
