Chapter 27 Eh, Nagi is...!?
#OtokotomodachiEh, Nagi isā¦!?
āN-no, Nanami⦠what are you saying? He is obviously a guy, doesnāt he? Right, Nagi?ā
āEh!? Ah, um⦠w-well, thatāsā¦!ā
When I turned to Nagi for confirmation, he suddenly seemed incredibly flustered.
Nanami, noticing Nagiās reaction, frowned and spoke with suspicion.
āā¦No, sheās clearly a girl. Why do you think heās a guy? Do you have any proof?ā
āW-Well, look at Nagiās clothesātheyāre menās clothes! That makes him a guy, doesnāt it?ā
āTaiki, thatās such a stupid reason. Sure, Nagiās wearing menās clothes, but just look at her body shapeāitās obviously a girl.ā
āHuh? Body shape?ā
āExactly. Plus, her face is small, her shoulders are narrow, and even though sheās a bit more built than most girlsāprobably from working outāitās still clear sheās a girl.ā
āN-No way. That canāt be right! Besides, donāt say something so rude about someone youāve just met. R-Right, Nagi? Iām sorry for what Nanamiāsāā
āā¦No, itās okay. Sheās right. Iām⦠not a guy. Iām a girl.ā
āā¦Huh?ā
Just as I was about to apologize to Nagi, he lowered his head slightly and quietly muttered those words.
My mind couldnāt process it at first, leaving me utterly confused.
āW-Wait⦠oh! I get it! This must be one of those tricks, right? Youāre not Nagiāyouāre actually Nami-san!ā
āā¦Eh?ā
āYeah, thatās it! Nagi and Nami-san have the same body type, so you mustāve switched places for fun! Like one of those twin-switch tricks you see in anime or dramasāā
āā¦Sorry, but Iām an only child. The person working at that cafĆ© and the one attending this university⦠both of them are me.ā
With his head lowered, Nagi admitted it, leaving me struggling to wrap my head around his words.
(Wait⦠does that mean⦠no way!)
āEh⦠wha!? W-wait a second⦠my head is really messed up right now⦠but⦠are you saying that Nagiās sister, Nami-san, is⦠you?ā
āYes, thatās right. Iām Nami-san.ā
āWhaā¦!?ā
Nagiās words hit me like a ton of bricks. A person named Nami-san never existed. The beautiful woman in the maid outfit I thought was Nami-san⦠was Nagi all along.
Which meansā¦
āS-So that means Iāve been saying all those things about Nami-san to you this whole time⦠like how sheās my type, or how beautiful and kind she isā¦?ā
āY-Yeah⦠so everything you said was directed at meā¦ā
āN-No way! I-I⦠ahā¦!ā
Realizing this, my face turned bright red.
I had told Nagi things like how beautiful, kind, and my type āNami-sanā wasāonly to discover Iād been saying all of it directly to him.
(W-wait a second⦠ah, I want to disappear into a hole!!)
I screamed internally, overwhelmed by embarrassment.
When I looked at Nagi, his face was just as red. Well, of courseāit mustāve been embarrassing for him to hear all that.
Both of us stood there, faces flushed, awkwardly avoiding each otherās gaze.
Then Nanami, looking confused, spoke up.
āHuh? Whatās wrong, Taiki? Why do you look so weird?ā
āEh!? A, w-well, um⦠I-I was just surprised because I didnāt realize at all that Nagi was a girl. But how did you know Nagi was a girl at first glance, Nanami?ā
āBecause I closely analyze peopleās body types for work. Iām always thinking about things like, āThese clothes would suit this manās frame,ā or āThis would complement this womanās slender figure.ā Besides, with her small face, narrow shoulders, and body shape, anyone could tell this girl is a woman.ā
āI-I see⦠so itās a professional thing. But hey, wait a second! Calling someone āthis girlā when youāve just met them is rude!ā
āEh? Ahaha, itās fine, isnāt it? Right, Nagi? You donāt mind either, do you?ā
āEh? Y-yes, I donāt particularly mind, butā¦ā
Nagi, overwhelmed by Nanamiās overbearing demeanor, nodded reluctantly. Nanami had a habit of looking down on others, even at first meetings.
True to form, she was doing it again now.
āSee? No problem. Anyway, Nagi, youāre a bit more built than most girls. Oh, do you play sports? Are you an athlete?ā
āEh? No, I donāt play any sports right now. I just do some light workouts and running on my days off.ā
āWow, you train even though youāre not an athlete? Oh, I get itāyou work out to pull off a masculine look! Are you a cosplayer or something?ā
āN-No, itās nothing like that. I just work out and wear menās clothes because⦠well, no particular reason. I just do it.ā
āHuh? Youāre doing all this for no reason? Haha, whatās with that? Youāre such a weird girlāso painfully odd! Haha, youāre seriously over the top!ā
āā¦!ā
āHey, Nanami, thatās enough. You donāt talk to someone youāve just met like that. Show some respect.ā
I glared at Nanami, who was laughing at Nagi, and reprimanded her.
āWhat? Why? Sheās weird! I mean, she works out and wears menās clothes for no reasonāthatās so cringy. What are you even doing hanging out with someone this ridiculous, Taiki?ā
āNagiās my close friend, and I enjoy spending time with her. Donāt insult my friends like that.ā
āT-Taikiā¦ā
āHuh? Taiki, you sticking up for another girl? Thatās rare. Oh, whatever. So, Nagi-chan, was it?ā
āEh? Ah, yes?ā
āWell, Taiki and I have something important to discuss. So why donāt you head home? Come on, Taiki, letās go.ā
āIām not going anywhere with you. Hey! Stop clinging to my arm!ā
āFufu, come on. You should feel honored to have a cute girl holding onto you.ā
āWhoād be happy about that!? And youāre not my girlfriend, either!ā
āU-Um!ā
As Nanami and I argued, Nagi suddenly raised her voice. Nanami turned to her, clearly annoyed.
āWhat? Oh, youāre still here? Look, we donāt need you anymore, so why donāt you just go home?ā
āYou might not need me, but I do! Taiki is my dear friend. S-So⦠please let go of him. Youāre making him uncomfortable!ā
āā¦Huh?ā
Nagi, her voice trembling slightly, stood up to Nanamiās selfishness.
