Chapter 36 Receiving a Confession

Receiving a Confession

“Nakatani-san! I fell in love with you the first time I saw you. These feelings are real. I like you. Please go out with me!”

With serious eyes, the shaved-headed male student confesses to Mizuki in front of her.

Hearing the male student’s confession, Mizuki turns her attention back from the vending machine and looks at him.

The male student’s face is serious, and there is no sign that he is lying. He must be sincere in his feelings.

Most girls would be happy to receive a confession from a handsome man who radiates the image of a good-looking young man. That’s how attractive this male student’s appearance was.

But for a moment, Mizuki looks a bit tired and disappointed.

Meanwhile, Sou, overcome with curiosity, looks out of the vending machine again, and for some reason, he watches the situation with a thrill of excitement. Mizuki’s attention is on the male student, so their eyes never meet this time.

Mizuki looked down for a moment, then looked up again as if she had made up her mind.

“I’m sorry. I can’t go out with you. I’m not interested in going out with anyone.”

With a slight bow and an explanation, Mizuki rejects the male student’s confession.

“I-I see, but if you don’t mind—”

Then the male student’s excited, rapid-fire words come to a halt. His mouth closes unnaturally.

This is because Mizuki addresses him without saying a word, expressionless as if she wanted to warn him not to dig too deep.

“I am sorry. Please take your time. I’m the one who called you, but I think I’ll go back to the classroom soon. Sorry for being selfish.”

The male student scratches his head diligently and purposefully. He’s been restless for a while.

“Yes. Please.”

Mizuki answers clearly and greets him without stopping him.

“Yes. Sorry. See you then!”

The male student must’ve felt uncomfortable, and this must’ve affected his mental health. He turns and runs away.

He runs past the vending machine where Sou is hiding and heads straight for the school building.

Sou follows the male student’s back behind the vending machine. When he sees his melancholy back, he feels sorry for him. He does not pretend to be a good guy.

“The confession is over now. You can come out now, Amane-kun.”

Not paying any special attention to the male student she had rejected, Mizuki shouts as she stands alone in front of the men’s basketball club. Mizuki’s voice reaches Sou, who is hiding behind the vending machine.

“Sorry. I spied on the confession scene. Was that uncomfortable?”

Sou comes out of the machine with an apologetic look.

The coin is still in the machine, and the button emits a blue light. The time limit is reached, and the coin is spit out of the machine with a clink. The blue light on the button turns off automatically.

“No. It’s no problem. I’m used to confessions and being seen.”

Mizuki shakes her head from side to side and pretends that she doesn’t really care.

“I see….”

Unable to find the right words for this occasion, Sou reacts accordingly, as if to show sympathy.

“Yes. I feel sorry for the guy who confesses, but to be honest, receiving confessions is a pain in the a🬀s. Both being asked and then refused.”

A dark aura surrounds Mizuki. She must feel a lot of resentment towards all the guys who have confessed to her so far. Unfortunately, Sou cannot understand her feelings. He has never received a confession before.

“How can I put it? You’re really popular….”

To change the mood, Sou speaks his honest opinion. He doesn’t mean any harm, but it’s a bad choice.

“…Even though I’m popular with boys, I don’t really have fond memories of it. It’s all painful. I’ve tasted it again and again. Yes, even back then.”

Mizuki lowers her eyes and speaks meaningful words. There is a lot of melancholy in her face. Moreover, she seems to be in despair about something.

“Umm….”

Sou racks his brain and tries his best to be considerate. But due to his lack of experience, things don’t go as he had hoped.

“There is no need to be so considerate. It’s almost the end of the break, so we should go back.”

As if she realized something from the troubled expression on his face, Mizuki forced a smile. It seems that Sou’s thoughts have been guessed.

“Uh, okay.”

Sou nods his head.

“Let’s forget what we just talked about and go back to the classroom.”
