Shocking Words

“Ha-ha-ha. Oh no! Oh no! We’re going to be late!”

Breathing heavily, Sou and Haruki walk side by side on the road from his home to Seidou High School. They hurry along the road they always take.

“It is 8:20. Morning classes start at 8:30, so it’s really last minute. At worst, we might not make it on time! This is all thanks to Amane taking the time to enjoy my special breakfast!”

Unlike Sou, Haruki checks the time on her smartphone during the run and is relaxed. She teases Sou with a smile and looks like she’s having fun.

“Ha-ha-ha. Uh… I can’t deny it. But still… Why does Yakumo-san look so relaxed? You do not even look tired, even though we walked quite a distance.”

To compensate for the lack of oxygen, Sou exchanges words with Haruki while breathing even harder. To be honest, it hurts to talk at all.

“Ha-ha. This is my first experience of going to school with a member of the opposite s🬀x at the last minute. It’s kinda refreshing and fun.”

Looking at Sou walking beside her, Haruki smiles innocently, like a girl her age. She seems to enjoy this moment.

Sou is fascinated by Haruki’s childish smile. Unlike her usual cool and manly behavior, the contrast is huge, and it really pierces his heart.

“Ha-ha-ha. I can finally see the school.”

After about 10 minutes of walking from home, the Seidou High School building finally comes into view. It’s a familiar school, but today it felt farther away than usual.

There are no Seidou High students around. That’s only natural since Sou and Haruki got to school late.

“Hurry up. It’s after 8:25. We’re going to be really late.”

Haruki takes her smartphone out of her uniform blazer and checks the time again.

“Oh no! Really! I don’t want to be late.”

Sou is a bit desperate. He is never late, but today is special. He is completely captivated by Haruki’s breakfast. He still can’t forget the feeling of not being able to stop eating. It was such a sublime moment.

“I agree with Amane. So let’s pick up the pace! Is it okay?”

As if testing him, Haruki looked directly into Sou’s eyes with a defiant smile.

Sou’s eyes also clearly reflect Haruki’s clear, light blue eyes.

“Ah. And before we pick up the pace, I’d like to tell you something. From now on, I’ll be preparing Amane’s meals. Please understand. That’s all. Then let’s go!”

Without waiting for an answer from Sou, Haruki increases the speed. It seems that she still has a lot of energy left.

“Eh? W-wait a second. What do you mean? Ehh~~?”

Sou’s mind freezes at Haruki’s shocking words, and his feet stop.

Haruki’s back in front of him gets further and further away.

“Oh~ hey! What are you standing still for? You’re really going to be late~!”

Haruki looks back as she runs off. She has already reached the main gate of the school.

“Oh no! Seriously, this is bad. Why am I spacing out?”

Hearing Haruki call out to him, Sou somehow comes to his senses. Gritting his teeth, he runs after Haruki at full speed, swinging his arms up and down with all his might.

But Haruki’s words from earlier are stuck in his head and will never leave his mind.

Just as Sou passed through the main gate and reached the entrance, the bell that signaled the start of the school rang far and wide throughout the school, echoing several times.
