Chapter 17 The Best New Life
#Giri no ImoutoThe Best New Life
It has been a week since Rumi and I started our new life together.
Every day in the new house feels happy.
There have been no problems and it has been peaceful.
The street demons are gone and security has been restored. From now on, I hope we can live without obstacles.
“Hayato, today is your day off, right? Let’s go somewhere.”
“Oke. Let’s go on a date.”
“Yes, good idea! How about a movie or an aquarium?”
“I’ll follow Rumi wherever you go.”
“Thanks. Both then?!”
“Yeah. Let’s go.”
Thinking back, I never went out with Rumi.
Today I’m free and nothing is holding me back.
That’s what I thought, but…
The bell rang.
… Who is it?
I didn’t remember ordering anything, and I was sure no visit was scheduled. Our answering machine still wasn’t working, so I went to the front door. When I opened the door, an unexpected person was standing there.
“It’s been a long time, Hayato.”
“Oh … Dad! Why are you here?”
“I heard about this place from Rumi. By the way, Hayato, how is your new life going?”
“It’s going well. Rumi likes me and I like Rumi. We’re in love.”
“Oh, I see, there don’t seem to be any problems in your life. But you’re only a sophomore in high school. If the school finds out, it will be troublesome. You have to be careful.”
It’s been a week since Rumi and I started living together.
Come to think of it, I haven’t told the school about it. Because I don’t think I should.
But that’s okay.
I’m actually over 20.
Rumi and I are already adults.
“Thank you for your concern.”
“And Akane … She was sent to a rehabilitation school for underage girls. She won’t be coming out for a while.”
“It’s best for her.”
“I’ll take care of the rest. You and Rumi can live in peace.”
My father understands me and Rumi. He supports us. I’m grateful for that.
“Sorry, Dad.”
“It’s okay. You have lost five years of your time Hayato. … I can only take care of you. … That’s why I want you to be happy.”
My father put his hand on my shoulder as he said that. I was happy and thanked him. He has helped me and Rumi in our lives. I have to repay him someday.
“Thank you.”
“All right. I’ll go now.”
“Take care, Dad.”
“Yes, I’ll call you soon.”
Dad turned and left.
Shortly after I dropped him off, Rumi arrived after finishing her preparations.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Hayato-kun. … What’s wrong?”
“My father was here earlier.”
“Is that so? I want to say hello.”
“He said he’d be back.”
“Oh, maybe another time.”
By the way, Rumi’s outfit today was very nice. It suits her in a classic feminine and graceful style. Perfect for her small frame.
“Rumi, you look cute.”
“Thanks. This is my favorite outfit.”
Holding hands, we decided to go to the aquarium and the movie in town.
