Chapter 109 Kondo in Detention

Kondo in Detention

Kondo’s PoV

I’m bored to death. It has been a day since I was arrested at the detention center. According to my lawyer, I should be out in about three days. I’m sure my father is working on getting everything sorted out by now, so I should be fine.

After talking to the lawyer yesterday, I feel much better mentally. As long as I don’t say anything unnecessary, I should be able to get away with it. With a little patience, I can get back to my normal life. Then I can go to college, work hard at soccer, and have a glorious professional life waiting for me.

If I can be patient in this short time, I’m sure my father and my lawyer will be able to get me out of here.

Keep quiet. I just have to keep doing this.

I’m sorry, I reflect on it.

That’s all I have to say. I’ll be fine.

“Kondo-kun, your lawyer is here.”

Huh? I think he just came yesterday, so why did he come this morning? Maybe he forgot something. I have a bad feeling.

“Seiji-kun, we’re in trouble.”

My lawyer looked pale.

“What happened?”

I asked fearfully. He continued with a trembling voice.

“Listen to me calmly. Apparently, your father went to the school and to the victim’s house.”

When I heard that, I knew I could count on my father. I’m sure he put pressure on them; tried to settle things with money.

“Then I guess it’s time for me to leave! As expected from my father. This is what a high-ranking citizen should be! Ah, thank God my father is a great guy.”

I hardly held back my laughter. But the words that followed were merciless.

“No, Seiji-kun. Your father threatened the school and the victim’s family. And then the voice recording was leaked. Now your father is on the national news and under fire. He’s holding a press conference at noon. Probably an apology press conference.”

What? What is he talking about? Why do we, who are supposed to be the high-ranking citizens, have to bow down? It’s not right.

While I shudder in silence, the lawyer continues.

“And what’s worse. Actually, your background is not reported because you are a minor, but it seems that you’ve already been identified on the Internet. Your father had mentioned in various interviews that his son was a prominent soccer player, so maybe that’s why they immediately identified you. After all, you were so famous because you were selected for the youth national team. Your name is on SNS, internet forums, and some websites with your picture.”

I could feel the blood running out of me.

“What will happen to me now? I can still get a recommendation for college, right? I’m supposed to be a member of the Japanese national soccer team in the future and play a big role overseas.”

“Let’s be honest, Seiji-kun. It’s impossible. No one can cover you up anymore. No university will accept you because you have become the most hated person on the Internet. Recommendations are doomed, and your school will most likely expel you.”

“Lies, lies, lies!!! My father and I are high-ranking citizens and …”

“Unfortunately, your father’s party will expel him. If he loses his position as a councilor, it will be difficult for him to keep the company afloat. He will lose everything.”

“Do something about it, Sensei. You’re a good lawyer and we pay you a lot of money. …”

“I told you. You and your father lost everything. I don’t want to go down with your muddy boat. I’m backing out. When they take away money and status from idiots like him, what’s left? Money talks? Nonsense. I don’t want to be a part of this anymore. I’m done with you people.”

“Wait a minute. If you back out, who’s going to protect us? Help me, I’ve only got you, Sensei. …”

“I’m sorry, but your father can’t pay me anymore. I don’t want to work for free, so let’s end this. I doubt we’ll ever see each other again but live on.”

Ignoring my screams, the lawyer slips out of the room. In a real sense, my downfall has begun.
