Chapter 50 Movie Date and Ex-girlfriend Loses Everything

Movie Date and Ex-Girlfriend Loses Everything

“Since you bought the tickets, I’ll pay for the drinks and popcorn. Let. me. pay. Okay?”

Ichijo-san said, and I accepted her offer.

Ichijo-san was thin, but she ate quite heartily. She finished her fried oyster dish and lunch plate yesterday and even asked for more. At Kitchen Aono, you can get free rice refills, so many athletic boys and working adults go there.

Popcorn is the best part of a movie, right? I ordered a Coke, and Ichijo-san ordered Earl Grey iced tea. If I hadn’t skipped breakfast this morning, I probably would have had a hot dog and fries too.

“Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what’s going to happen, they say in the movie, but I think it’s true. Because right now, I never thought I would come to a movie like this with Senpai.”

I didn’t expect such a famous movie quote to come out of Ichijo-san’s mouth.

“Right. I’m also grateful for this chance meeting. Because if I hadn’t met Ichijo-san, I think I would’ve been much unhappier…”

“And without realizing it, you make the people around you happy too. Well, I don’t think it’s just me. In fact, Senpai is blessed with good people around him. Mom, brother, teachers at school, and even Imai-senpai. No matter how painful it is, there are so many who will stand by you.”

“But it was Ichijo-san who reached out to me first. That doesn’t change the fact that you’re special.”

Because if we hadn’t met on that rooftop, and if the timing had been off by even a few minutes, tragedy might have befallen us.

The screening began.

Today’s movie is Forrest Gump.

It’s a masterpiece of American human drama.

It tells the story of a protagonist with a low IQ, accepted by the people around him who understand him, and who in turn makes them happy. Despite its comedic style, it’s a solid human drama set against modern American history.

In a way, my current situation makes me empathize deeply with the main character. In times of need, I’m grateful for the people who help me, and I need to return the favor.

I should return the favor. I should appreciate the people who care about me. I lost a lot because of that incident. But even so, I’ve learned that there are many important things around me.

And it was all thanks to Ichijo-san.

When I reached for the bucket to grab some popcorn, I unexpectedly touched her hand. Ichijo-san let out a small “ah” and quickly pulled her hand back in panic.

Her reaction was so uncharacteristic that it made me smile.

I wished this moment could last forever. Thinking this, I lost myself in the movie.

Miyuki’s PoV

“I am sorry for my stupid son. I will cover your hospitalization and other expenses.”

Kondo-senpai’s father bowed his head sincerely. But my mother didn’t even look at him.

“Don’t mock me! I can pay that much money myself. I don’t even want to see your face, so please leave quickly!!”

My mother said that coldly. It felt as though her words were directed at me as well, and my heart ached.

“Then I’ll leave my business card here. Please contact me if you need anything.”

Senpai’s father left the room, leaving behind an envelope of money.

“Hey, Miyuki. I don’t understand you. That Kondo guy hit on you even though he knew you had a boyfriend, right? Why do you like a guy like that?”

“…”

I couldn’t answer.

“I see. You don’t want to answer me. What you did is wrong as a human being. I failed to teach my daughter this important lesson as a parent. I really am a lousy mother.”

I made my mother, who raised me single-handedly, say such cruel things. Overcome by despair, I trembled and shed tears.

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t apologize to me. Go home. Leave me alone!”

The cold blade of her words pierced my heart.

In front of my house, I saw another childhood friend I didn’t want to meet after coming back home.

Imai Satoshi.

Eiji’s best friend and my childhood friend since elementary school.

“Satoshi…”

I knew exactly what he was going to say. Finally, the time had come. The day I lost everything.

“It’s been a long time, Miyuki. You know why I’m here, right?”

“Yes.”

Even my mother rejected me. I was destined to lose everything.

“I can no longer consider Miyuki a friend. That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for everything.”

He broke off our friendship and left.

I ran to the front door, collapsing in tears.
